Defending Premier League champions Manchester City will be hoping to avoid an upset on Monday evening, when they host Wolverhampton at the Etihad Stadium. The reverse fixture proved difficult enough for the Citizens, it ended 1-1 as Aymeric Laporte netted the equalizer after Willy Boly had put the Wolves ahead. The two teams have also met in 2017 in the League Cup, the Wolves lost the match but they managed to push the clash into the penalty shoot-out after holding the Citizens goalless for 120 minutes. The last time Wolverhampton won an away match against Manchester City was in 1999, when both teams were playing in the Championship.
Manchester City have recovered from their back-to-back defeats either side of Christmas Day with a string of four consecutive wins in all competitions, with 21 goals scored and just two conceded. The most important result of that streak was the 2-1 victory over league leaders Liverpool on January 3rd, that win keeps the title chase wide open and gave the Citizens a huge confidence boost. After that match they demolished Rotherham 7-0 in the FA Cup and then pulled off a 9-0 hammering of Burton in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final. Benjamin Mendy, Claudio Bravo and Eliaquim Mangala remain injured, but Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany should be available again after having recovered from their injuries.
Wolves have pulled off several surprises this season, they ended 2018 with a stunning 3-1 victory at Tottenham and followed it up with a shocking 2-1 victory over Premier League leaders Liverpool on Monday. Between those two great victories they lost 2-0 at home against Crystal Palace, and that inconsistency keeps them in the middle of the Premier League table. However, they have proven that they can defeat any team in the league, and that should give them enough confidence ahead of this fixture. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo doesn't have any injury concerns ahead of this game.
Man City: Ederson - Walker, Stones, Laporte, Delph - B. Silva, Fernandinho, D. Silva - Mahrez, Jesus, Sterling
Wolves: Patricio - Bennett, Coady, Boly - Doherty, Saiss, Moutinho, Jonny - Traore, Jota - Jimenez
My prediction: Manchester City to win 3-0, the Citizens should not underestimate the Wolves for the second time this season.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

I agree with your prediction, maybe we will see Sane in first 11. City is back in track, but i think their biggest ambition this year is to win CL, they want that trophy, i expect to see them in semis
You were right about result :)
Yeah a good guess Johnny, but probably not the toughest you'll ever have to make; )
Wolves have played brilliant at times this season and I admire the work their manger doing but the inconsistency is maybe an aspect of the game of every new team in the PL and of course a good result against one of the title contenders away is a bit too big ask or them.
City just can't afford any more mistakes in their chase of the leaders Liverpool so they just have to win a games like that one, and they've done it quite easily this time.
