Tottenham are looking to bounce back from the North London derby defeat when they face Southampton at Wembley Stadium in London on Wednesday. Last season the Spurs defeated the Saints 5-2 in the match at White Hart Lane, Harry Kane bagged a hat-trick in that game while Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min also got their names on the score sheet. The reverse fixture was a lot less spectacular, it ended 1-1 at St Mary's. Overall, Tottenham have won four of the last six direct matches, while Southampton only managed to grab one win. That victory happened in London in 2016, the Saints won that match 2-1 with two goals from Steven Davis.
Tottenham had a six-game winning streak in all competitions going before last weekend, confidence was high in Mauricio Pochettino's team, but the tide has turned because of the 4-2 defeat they suffered against rivals Arsenal in the North London derby. The defeat is even more painful for the Spurs considering that they had a 2-1 lead at half-time after having fought back from 1-0 down. That result dropped Tottenham to fifth place, tied on 30 points with Arsenal. Jan Vertonghen was sent off in the derby and will be suspended for Wednesday's match, while Victor Wanyama, Vincent Janssen, Mousa Dembele and Davinson Sanchez are all injured. Kieran Trippier and Erik Lamela missed the derby due to injuries but might recover in time for the match against Southampton.
Southampton have decided to sack manager Mark Hughes after last weekend's 2-2 draw at home against Manchester United, but the boss wasn't necessarily canned because of that result. The Saints only managed to win one of their fourteen Premier League matches this season and are down in 18th place with just 9 points. Assistant coach Kelvin Davis will be in charge for Wednesday's match as the club are still looking for a long-term replacement for Hughes. Mario Lemina is suspended for Wednesday's match, while Shane Long is sidelined with an injury. Matt Targett, Ryan Bertrand, Michael Obafemi and Danny Ings are all injury doubts for the away side.
Tottenham: Lloris - Aurier, Foyth, Alderweireld, Rose - Winks, Dier - Sissoko, Alli, Moura - Kane
Southampton: McCarthy - Stephens, Yoshida, Vestergaard - Valery, Hojbjerg, Davis, Soares - Armstrong, Gabbiadini - Austin
My prediction: Tottenham to win 2-0, the Saints are a long way from being ready for such a match.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
Tottenham win - 1.36

Southampton win - 9.50

Great prediction mate. Tottenham absolutly deserved to win and take 3 more points. Now, they have 33 points and I think main goal for them this season is to be top 4 team and to qualify for Chempions league next season. On the other hand, Southampton have only 9 point and they will need to be much better if want to play in Premier league next season.
