The 232nd edition of the Merseyside Derby will take place on Sunday, when Liverpool host rivals Everton at Anfield. The two rivals have met three times last season, the two Premier League matches ended with draws while the clash in the FA Cup was won by Liverpool 2-1 thanks to goals from James Milner and Virgil Van Dijk. Liverpool have won four of the last six direct matches in all competitions, while the Toffees have not tasted victory against their rivals since 2010, when Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta brought them a 2-0 victory at Goodison Park. Overall, Liverpool have won the derby 92 times, while Everton have won it on 66 occasions.
Liverpool are still going strong in the Premier League, they are undefeated since the start of the season and are in second place, just two points behind leaders Manchester City. They have won ten of their thirteen league matches so far and conceded just five goals, that's the kind of track record that can bring a team close to the title. However, their performances in cup competitions has been terrible lately: they were knocked out of the League Cup by Chelsea and lost three of their five matches in the Champions League, including the 2-1 defeat at PSG earlier this week. Jordan Henderson is suspended for Sunday's match after getting sent off in last week's 3-0 victory at Watford.
Everton are having a pretty good season so far, they have lost just three of their thirteen league matches and are sitting in sixth place at the moment. Two of their three defeats were against big teams, Manchester United and Arsenal, and both were recorded away from home. They are unbeaten in their last three matches, starting with a 3-1 home victory over Brighton, then a creditable goalless draw at Chelsea and last week's 1-0 home victory over Cardiff. Jonjo Kenny is the only injury concern for the Toffees ahead of this match. Manager Marco Silva has pretty much chosen his favourite starting eleven up to this point, but he might try to surprise Jurgen Klopp with one or two moves.
Liverpool: Alisson - Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson - Wijnaldum, Fabinho - Shaqiri, Firmino, Mane - Salah
Everton: Pickford - Coleman, Keane, Mina, Digne - Gomes, Gueye - Lookman, Sigurdsson, Bernard - Richarlison
My prediction: Liverpool to win 3-1, the Reds are strong and they will be determined to bounce back from the Champions League defeat.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Everton win - 9.00
