Two of the best teams in English football so far this season clash for the second time in just four days as Premier League leaders Liverpool visit Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in London on Saturday. The two sides have clashed at Anfield in the League Cup on Wednesday and Chelsea managed to inflict Liverpool their first defeat of the season, it ended 2-1 thanks to a sensational winning goal from Eden Hazard. That was the second consecutive win for the Blues over the Reds after last season's 1-0 Premier League success in London. Three of he last six direct matches ended in draws, and Liverpool won just one.
Chelsea suffered their first setback of the season last week, after six consecutive wins in all competitions they only managed to grab a goalless draw at West Ham. But they recovered from that quickly and in style with the 2-1 victory at Liverpool on Wednesday, a great result for the Blues after a solid performance. Manager Maurizio Sarri has rested a few of his players in midweek, including goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and striker Olivier Giroud, but now he should revert to his preferred starting eleven. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Pedro, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are all fitness doubts for the home side, while Marco Van Ginkel is still ruled out.
Liverpool's seven-match winning streak in all competitions was halted on Wednesday, even though the Reds seem to capture control of the League Cup match against Chelsea after Daniel Sturridge had put them ahead just before the hour mark. However, Liverpool still have their 100% Premier League record and they still are at the top of the table, so nothing is lost except, of course, the League Cup. Divock Origi, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all injured, while Virgil Van Dijk should be fine despite having to overcome a chest issue. Manager Jurgen Klopp will surely field his preferred starting eleven, the one that got the six Premier League wins so far.
Chelsea: Arrizabalaga - Azpilicueta, Cahill, Luiz, Alonso - Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic - Willian, Giroud, Hazard
Liverpool: Alisson - Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson - Milner, Wijnaldum, Keita - Salah, Firmino, Mane
My prediction: 2-2 draw, I can't see Liverpool losing two in a row but they won't be able to get past a strong Chelsea either.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
