League Cup: Tottenham vs Watford preview
Tottenham will be thinking about revenge when they face Watford at Stadium MK in the third round of the League Cup. The Hornets defeated the Spurs 2-1 in the Premier League at the start of September, with goals from Troy Deeney and Craig Cathcart. That was the first victory for Watford over Tottenham after a string of 13 matches without success. Overall, Tottenham have won eight of the last ten direct matches, but the Hornets have managed to lose just one of the last three. The match will be played at Stadium MK as Tottenham's new stadium is not ready yet and Wembley Stadium is not available. Tottenham surely remember their defeat at Watford on 2 September because that was the starting point of a three-match losing streak in all competitions. The last defeat was in the Champions League last week, 2-1 at Inter Milan, but the Spurs managed to recover with a 2-1 Premier League victory at Brighton at the weekend. Harry Kane and Eric Lamela scored the goals in that match, but most likely only the latter will be in the starting eleven on Wednesday as the England striker will probably be rested. Juan Foyth, Vincent Janssen and Hugo Lloris are still injured, while Moussa Sissoko might reach a good enough fitness level to make the squad. Watford had their five-game winning streak in all competitions halted right after the international break, when they lost 2-1 at home against Manchester United, and they failed to get back to winning ways last weekend as they got held to a 1-1 draw at Fulham. That was the third consecutive match without a clean sheet for Watford and also their fifth match with goals conceded out of seven matches in total so far this season. Troy Deeney picked up a knock against Fulham and might have to sit this one out, while Gerard Deulofeu is still lacking match fitness. Nathaniel Chalobah has recovered from his injury and was on the bench last weekend, so he will probably have a starting place on Wednesday evening. Probable line-ups: Tottenham: Gazzaniga - Aurier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies - Wanyama, Winks - Alli, Eriksen, Lamela - Llorente Watford: Foster - Janmaat, Cathcart, Kabasele, Holebas - Chalobah, Doucoure - Hughes, Pereyra - Success, Gray My prediction: Watford to win 2-1, this match means a lot more to the Hornets while Tottenham are probably thinking more about the next Premier League weekend. Here are the odds for the match at Bet365: Tottenham win - 1.44 Draw - 4.75 Watford win - 8.00
