Premier League: Newcastle United vs Arsenal preview

Newcastle United are hoping to grab their first victory of the season on Saturday, but their task will be quite difficult as they host Arsenal at St. James' Park. The Magpies have won 2-1 at home against the Gunners last season, while the match in London was won by Arsenal 1-0. The Gunners have won ten of the last eleven direct matches, last season's defeat in Newcastle ended that winning streak against the Magpies. Newcastle have never won two consecutive matches against Arsenal in the last twenty years.

Newcastle are struggling to find the road towards success this season, they have lost four of their five matches in all competitions and their only decent result was a goalless draw at Cardiff in the Premier League. They also got knocked out of the League Cup after losing 3-1 at Nottingham Forest and before the international break they lost 2-1 at defending Premier League champions Manchester City. Javier Manquillo and Florian Lejeune remain sidelined for the home side, but Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie should be able to make the bench at least.

Arsenal seem to have recovered from their poor start to the season, they kicked off the campaign with two consecutive defeat but then they recorded back-to-back victories. However, the results of those matches seems to have been dictated by the level of the opponents, the Gunners lost to Manchester City and Chelsea and won against West Ham and Cardiff. Manager Unai Emery still has a fairly long list of injured players, with Sead Kolasinac, Laurent Koscielny, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Carl Jenkinson still out of contention.

Probable line-ups:

Newcastle: Dubravka - Yedlin, Schar, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett - Murphy, Diame, Shelvey, Kenedy - Rondon

Arsenal: Cech - Bellerin, Mustafi, Sokratis, Monreal - Guendouzi, Xhaka - Mkhitaryan, Ramsey, Aubameyang - Lacazette

My prediction: Arsenal to win 2-1, Newcastle might need more time to sort themselves out after this poor start to the season.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Newcastle win - 4.20
Draw - 3.80
Arsenal win - 1.90
