Tottenham are one of the two Premier League clubs that have not signed any new players this summer. The other top-flight club that has been completely inactive on the transfer market this summer is Burnley, but the difference between them and the Spurs is that the Clarets don't even dream of qualifying for the Champions League, let alone play in Europe's biggest club competition. Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino had previously urged the club's executives to be "brave" and "take risks" in order to keep pace with their rivals, who have been spending lots of money on new stars.
There have been rumours linking Real Madrid's Gareth Bale with a return to Tottenham this summer, but nothing seems to be happening on that front. Aston Villa rising star Jack Grealish is also reported to be a target for the Spurs after his side failed to get promoted to the Premier League, but nothing happened with that move either. Last but not least, Anthony Martial seems to be wanting to leave Manchester United, but so far Tottenham have not made an offer for the French winger. Last summer Tottenham spent just over 61 million pounds on new players as they bought central defender Davinson Sanchez, right-back Serge Aurier and backup striker Fernando Llorente. However, they sold right-back Kyle Walker to Manchester City for 50 million pounds.
"Last season I told you some numbers, but this season we don't know," Mauricio Pochettino said about his club's transfer dealings this summer. "I don't know if we are going to sign anyone or not. We're working on that. I cannot tell you if we're going to sign one, zero or two or three or four. I think I am working and focused on trying to deliver my job, our job. I try to prepare the team. That's the focus and we're concentrating on that." Tottenham have qualified for the Champions League after having finished third in the Premier League last season and Mauricio Pochettino signed a new five-year contract in May.
Tottenham are 16/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title next season.
