Premier League: Liverpool to sign goalkeeper Alisson
Liverpool have reached an agreement with Serie A side AS Roma for the transfer of Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson for a fee of 75 million euros. The Brazilian goalie will undergo a medical with the Reds in the coming days and has reportedly already agreed to sign a five-year contract with the Premier League side. This deal would make Alisson the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of football, a record that was previously held by the 53 million euros transfer fee paid by Juventus to Parma for Gianluigi Buffon in 2001. The most expensive goalkeeper in the Premier League is Manchester City's Ederson, whose transfer from Benfica in 2017 was worth 40 million euros. Liverpool had big problems of consistency with their goalkeepers during the past few seasons as both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius made serious mistakes that let to lost matches. The latest high-profile errors were made by Loris Karius during last season's UEFA Champions League final, which Liverpool lost 3-1 against Real Madrid. Overall, Simon Mignolet started 19 Premier League matches last season, while Loris Karius had 19 Premier League starts and 13 appearances in the UEFA Champions League. Alisson Becker is the current number one of the Brazilian national team and has been also linked with a move to Real Madrid during the last few months. Roma bought him from Brazilian side Internacional in 2016 as a backup for Polish goalie Wojciech Szczesny. Alisson only managed to make his Serie A debut in the 2017-2018 season but he had a tremendous campaign as Roma reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. He will become the fourth signing of the summer for Liverpool after the arrivals of Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri. Liverpool are now 9/2 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title next season.
