Premier League: Arsenal name Unai Emery as new manager
Arsenal have finally chosen the successor to Arsene Wenger after the Frenchman left the club following a 22-year reign, Spanish coach Unai Emery will be the new boss at the Emirates Stadium. The 46-year-old Spaniard has just left French giants Paris Saint-Germain after having led them to the Ligue 1 title this season. He announced his decision to leave PSG in April, after having captured four domestic cups and the league title during his two seasons in charge. PSG might not have extended his contract anyway due to the team's rather poor results in the UEFA Champions League. Before PSG, Unai Emery managed Sevilla and led the Spanish club to a historic achievement: three consecutive Europa League trophies between 2013 and 2016. "Unai has an outstanding track record of success throughout his career, has developed some of the best young talent in Europe and plays an exciting, progressive style of football that fits Arsenal perfectly," Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said. "His hard working and passionate approach and his sense of values on and off the pitch make him the ideal person to take us forward." "I'm very excited to be given the responsibility to start this important new chapter in Arsenal's history," said Unai Emery. "I am thrilled to be joining one of the great clubs in the game. Arsenal is known and loved throughout the world for its style of play, its commitment to young players, the fantastic stadium, the way the club is run. I'm excited about what we can do together and I look forward to giving everyone who loves Arsenal some special moments and memories." Unai Emery has been elected European Coach of the Season in 2013-2014. Arsenal are 30/1 at Betfair to win the Premier League title next season.
