Premier League: Southampton vs Chelsea preview

Relegation candidates Southampton are looking to take advantage of Chelsea's poor recent form when the two sides meet at St Mary's on Saturday. The Blues won the reverse fixture 1-0 earlier this season thanks to a goal from Marcos Alonso on the stroke of half time. Chelsea have won the last four matches against Southampton, but the Saints have a good track record of causing upsets against the Blues, in October 2015 they won 3-1 at Stamford Bridge and in 2013 they have beaten Chelsea 2-1 at St Mary's.

Southampton are currently in the relegation zone, down in 18th place and three points behind 17th-placed Crystal Palace, but the Saints do have a game in hand. Their form doesn't give their fans much hope, though, they have lost their last three league matches and have not won a Premier League match since the start of February. Last week the Saints lost 3-2 at Arsenal after having held a one-goal lead early in the game. Jack Stephens is now suspended after being sent off against the Gunners, while Sam McQueen and Steven Davis are sidelined with injuries.

Chelsea are looking forward to see the end of this season, the defending champions have been suffering disappointments on all fronts. They are still in with a chance to win the FA Cup, but everything else has gone wrong. They are currently fifth in the Premier League table, ten points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, so only a miracle would see the Blues finish in the top four this time. They have won just one of their last five league matches and last time out they were held to a 1-1 home draw by West Ham.

Probable line-ups:

Southampton: McCarthy - Soares, Yoshida, Hoedt, Bertrand - Hojbjerg, Romeu - Tadic, Ward-Prowse, Redmond - Austin

Chelsea: Courtois - Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger - Moses, Kante, Fabregas, Alonso - Willian, Hazard - Morata

My prediction: Southampton to win 2-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Southampton win - 4.20
Draw - 3.50
Chelsea win - 1.85

That game was a huge blow for the Southampton ambitions of survival.
After leading 2-0 they allowed Chelsea to score 3 unanswered goals late which cost them the points, what a blow.
But the fact is that in the present moment the Saints still having some chances of survival, those would be a lot higher if they were to win that one though.
