Back UEFA Champions League: Real Madrid vs Juventus preview

Juventus have a narrow lead to defend when they travel to face Real Madrid on Wednesday in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final clash. The Italian champions won the first leg 2-1 with goals from Alvaro Morata and Carlos Tevez, while Cristiano Ronaldo scored for Real. These two teams have met on 17 occasions, there was just one draw and eight wins apiece. Real Madrid have won five of seven at home against Juventus, who last won at the Bernabeu in 2008 thanks to a double from Alessandro Del Piero.

Real Madrid are coming from a disappointing week, which started with the defeat at Juventus and ended with a 2-2 home draw against Valencia in the Primera Liga on Saturday. That draw left Cristiano Ronaldo and company four points behind rivals Barcelona at the top of the table with just two games left in the season. However, Real's chances of defending the Champions League trophy are still high thanks to the away goal that they scored at Juventus. They have won 21 of their 29 home games against Italian opponents and were beaten just six times. Luka Modric is still out of contention but Karim Benzema is fit again and might start on the bench.

Juventus have already secured the Serie A title, their fourth in a row, but they are hungry for a big success in Europe. They have not reached the semi-finals of the Champions League since 2003, when they lost to AC Milan in the final. They have not conceded any goals in their last three away games in Europe, including a goalless draw at Monaco in the last eight. Moreover, they have won 33 of their 41 European ties in which they won the home leg. Juventus are glad to welcome Paul Pogba back into the team after he returned from injury last weekend and scored. Martin Caceres and Kwadwo Asamoah are still on the sidelines.

Probable line-ups:

Real Madrid: Casillas - Carvajal, Pepe, Varane, Marcelo - Ramos, Kroos, Isco - James, Ronaldo, Bale

Juventus: Buffon - Lichtsteiner, Chiellini, Bonucci, Evra - Pirlo, Marchisio, Sturaro, Vidal - Morata, Tevez

My prediction: Real Madrid to win 2-1 (after 90 minutes)

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Real Madrid win - 4/6 Draw - 16/5 Juventus win - 9/2
