UEFA Champions League: Liverpool vs Manchester City preview
Two Premier League sides clash in Europe on Wednesday as Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield Road in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-finals tie. Manchester City destroyed Liverpool 5-0 in their first direct meeting this season, but the Reds got revenge with a 4-3 victory in January, which still is the only Premier League defeat of the season for the Citizens. Overall, Liverpool have won four of the last six direct matches in the Premier League, while Man City won just one of those six. Liverpool have a solid home record this season, they have lost just one of the 23 matches in front of the home fans and have not conceded any goals in the last three home games. In the previous round the did the job in the first leg, the away one, as they defeated FC Porto 5-0, then they settled for a goalless draw at Anfield Road. Last weekend the Reds grabbed a 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace to consolidate their third place in the Premier League table. Adam Lallana got injured during that match and will miss out on Wednesday, along with Joe Gomes and most likely Emre Can as well. Manchester City have all but secured the Premier League title, last weekend they won 3-1 at Everton to preserve their sixteen-point advantage over second-placed Manchester United with just seven matches left until the end of the season. In the previous Champions League round the Citizens had a fairly easy task, they won the first leg 4-0 at Basel and then chilled out in the second leg, which they lost 2-1. Aymeric Laporte, Sergio Aguero and Fabian Delph are injury doubts for manager Pep Guardiola, but all three have good chances of playing on Wednesday. Probable line-ups: Liverpool: Karius - Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson - Chamberlain, Henderson, Milner - Salah, Firmino, Mane Man City: Bravo - Walker, Kompany, Otamendi, Laporte - De Bruyne, Fernandinho, D. Silva - Sterling, Aguero, Sane My prediction: 2-2 draw. Here are the odds for the match at Bet365: Liverpool win - 3.00 Draw - 3.60 Man City win - 2.39
