UEFA Champions League: Paris Saint-Germain vs Real Madrid preview

French champions Paris Saint-Germain are determined to fight back when they face Real Madrid at Parc des Princes on Tuesday in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League first knockout round tie. Real Madrid won the first leg 3-1, PSG had taken the lead through Adrien Rabiot but Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice for the home side before Marcelo wrapped things up with a late goal. PSG have not won a competitive match against Real Madrid since 1994, when the French side prevailed in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup quarter-finals.

The first-leg defeat was a rare setback for Paris Saint-Germain this season, they have lost just four matches in all competitions since the start of the campaign and are very likely to secure a domestic double. Last week they defeated Marseille 3-0 to advance to the semi-finals of the French Cup, while in Ligue 1 they won 2-0 at Troyes to preserve their fourteen-point advantage at the top of the table. Unfortunately for them Neymar picked up a foot injury and will be forced to sit this one out, along with fellow Brazilian Marquinhos.

Real Madrid don't have anything left to fight for this season except the Champions League, after they failed their campaigns on the domestic front. They are currently third in LaLiga, a whole fifteen points behind leaders Barcelona, but that gave head coach Zinedine Zidane the chance to rotate a few players for last weekend's 3-1 home win over Getafe. Luka Modric and Jesus Vallejo are injured and won't be able to play in Tuesday's match, while Toni Kroos is struggling with a knee issue but might be fit in time for the game.

Probable line-ups:

PSG: Areola - Alves, T. Silva, Kimpembe, Kurzawa - Verratti, Lo Celso, Rabiot - Mbappe, Cavani, Di Maria

Real: Navas - Carvajal, Varane, Nacho, Marcelo - Casemiro, Kroos - Ronaldo, Isco, Bale - Benzema

My prediction: Paris Saint-Germain to win 2-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

PSG win - 2.10
Draw - 4.20
Real win - 3.25
