Premier League: Alexis Sanchez joins Manchester United
Manchester United and Arsenal have finally completed the deal that everybody expected for more than a week: Alexis Sanchez moves to Old Trafford while Henrikh Mkhitaryan heads to the Emirates Stadium. Alexis Sanchez, aged 29, has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Manchester United, worth £14m a year after tax. He was heavily linked with Manchester City both last summer and in January, but eventually the Citizens decided they don't want to pay him more than their current stars. Henrikh Mkhitaryan, also aged 29, moves to Arsenal after having scored 13 goals in 63 appearances for Manchester United. The Armenian midfielder had joined the Red Devils from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2016 but this season he found himself out of favour with manager Jose Mourinho. On the other hand, Alexis Sanchez scored 80 goals for Arsenal since joining the Gunners from Barcelona in 2014. Last season Sanchez scored 30 goals in all competitions for Arsenal. "I am thrilled to be joining the biggest club in the world," said Alexis Sanchez after the transfer was confirmed. "The chance to play in this historic stadium and to work with Jose Mourinho was something I could not turn down. I am very proud to be the first Chilean player ever to play for United's first team, and I hope I can show our fans all around the world why the club wanted to bring me here." Manager Jose Mourinho added: "Alexis is one of the best attacking players in the world and he will complete our very young and talented group of attacking players. He will bring his ambition, drive and personality - qualities that make a Manchester United player." Manchester United are 50/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League this season.
