League Cup: Bristol City vs Manchester City preview

Championship side Bristol City will attempt the impossible when they face Premier League leaders Manchester City at Ashton Gate Stadium on Tuesday in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final tie. The Citizens won the first leg 2-1 after Bristol City had held a 1-0 lead at half time. Moreover, Sergio Aguero only managed to score the winning goal in the 92nd minute, so manager Pep Guardiola will surely try to persuade his players not to take this match lightly because that could backfire.

Bristol City could make history on Tuesday if they manage to beat Manchester City and qualify for the League Cup final, that would be their first cup final since 1909, when they lost the FA Cup final. They have beaten Manchester United 2-1 at Ashton Gate Stadium in the previous round and have knocked out three other Premier League teams before that, but now they are in pretty bad shape. They have not won a match since Boxing Day, they have lost five games in a row and only managed to end that losing streak with a goalless draw at Derby County last week.

Manchester City suffered their first domestic defeat of the season two weeks ago, 4-3 at a rampant Liverpool, but they recovered with a 3-1 victory over Newcastle last weekend. The Citizens don't have any Premier League action next weekend as they are still involved in the FA Cup, so manager Pep Guardiola will probably name his strongest eleven on Tuesday and rest some players at the weekend. Benjamin Mendy, Gabriel Jesus and Fabian Delph are injured, while Vincent Kompany might make his return.

Probable line-ups:

Bristol City: Steele - Wright, Flint, Diedhiou, Magnusson - Brownhill, Smith, Pack, Bryan - Paterson - Reid

Man City: Bravo - Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Zinchenko - Gundogan, Fernandinho, De Bruyne - Sterling, Aguero, Sane

My prediction: Manchester City to win 3-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Bristol City win - 15.00
Draw - 6.50
Man City win - 1.2

If you ask me the aggregate winner was decided even in the first game with the late Aguero goal.
Of course City were always a huge favourite but the way BC have played in the first match we could of thought there's an upset on the horizon until that late blow for them that the probably didn't deserved.
No doubt M City would be favourites for the final too.
