Premier League: Liverpool vs Manchester City preview

Premier League leaders Manchester City face their first big test in 2018 as they travel to Anfield Road to meet fourth-placed Liverpool on Sunday. The Citizens put on quite a display in the reverse fixture, they won it 5-0 back in September with doubles from Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane and another goal from Sergio Aguero. However, Liverpool have won all the last four home matches against Manchester City in the Premier League and have not lost at home against the Citizens since 2003.

Liverpool have been in good form lately, they have not lost a match since October and have put together a four-match winning streak after Christmas. Last week they recorded a 2-1 derby victory over Everton in the FA Cup, while in the Premier League they defeated Burnley 2-1 on New Year's Day. They are currently fourth in the Premier League table, three points ahead fifth-placed Tottenham and two points behind third-placed Chelsea. Nathaniel Clyne, Alberto Moreno and Jordan Henderson are injured, while Philippe Coutinho has left the club to join Barcelona and he will surely be missed at Anfield Road.

Manchester City had just a slight setback in their march towards the Premier League title as they were held to a goalless draw at Crystal Palace on New Year's Eve, but they recovered with three consecutive wins in all competitions. This week the Citizens defeated Bristol City 2-1 in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final and manager Pep Guardiola rested quite a few important players for Sunday's game. Benjamin Mendy, Phil Foden, Vincent Kompany and Gabriel Jesus are injured, while David Silva could miss the match due to personal reasons.

Probable line-ups:

Liverpool: Mignolet - Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson - Milner, Can, Wijnaldum - Salah, Firmino, Mane

Man City: Ederson - Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph - De Bruyne, Fernandinho, D. Silva - Sterling, Aguero, Sane

My prediction: 1-1 draw.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Liverpool win - 3.10
Draw - 3.75
Man City win - 2.29
