Back Premier League: Liverpool vs Swansea preview

Liverpool play host to Swansea on Monday evening at Anfield Road in a clash between two sides that have the same purpose: closing the gap to the top four. Liverpool clinched the three points against Burnley on Boxing Day thanks to a goal from Raheem Sterling but they are ninth in the table, one place behind Swansea.

Goalkeeper Brad Jones picked up an injury on Boxing Day so Simon Mignolet will get another chance to prove himself. Fabio Borini will be available again after having served his suspension but Dejan Lovren, Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan remained out with long-term injuries.

A win for Swansea should be enough to move them up to fifth in the table after having snatched a 1-0 win against Aston Villa on Boxing Day. The Swans have three wins from their last five league matches. Manager Garry Monk will be without Jefferson Montero who is sidelined with a hamstring injury but Jazz Richards, Wayne Routledge and Bafetimbi Gomis should be all fit and eager to play after being dropped to the bench for the match against Aston Villa. The two sides have already met this season in the League Cup, Liverpool knocked Swansea out in extra time.

Probable line-ups:

Liverpool: Mignolet - Can, Skrtel, Sakho, Henderson - Gerrard, Borini, Markovic, Coutinho, Sterling - Lallana

Swansea City: Fabianski - Rangel, Fernandez, Routledge, Carroll - Ki, Dyer, Richards, Sigurdsson, Emnes - Bony

My prediction: Liverpool to win 2-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Liverpool win - 8/11 Draw - 14/5 Swansea win - 9/2
