Formula 1: Lewis Hamilton doesn't take title for granted
Lewis Hamilton has extended his lead at the top of the Formula 1 Driver's Championship to 59 points on Sunday after winning the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka. His rival Sebastian Vettel failed to finish the race and now Hamilton has a comfortable lead with just four races left in the season. However, he says the title is not won yet: "I just have to keep my head down and keep doing what I've been doing. There are still 100 points available. We've still got to win the next four races." Things have gone better than expected for Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes after the summer break, since Formula 1 returned to action at the Belgian Grand Prix in August Hamilton has taken four wins and a second place while Sebastian Vettel had all sorts of misfortunes as he crashed out in Singapore and battled engine trouble in both Malaysia and Japan. Hamilton could wrap up the title race in Austin, USA, if he wins that Grand Prix and Vettel finishes lower than fourth the crown will be his. Hamilton added: "Is it a purple patch? A golden patch maybe. It's definitely been a great second half of the season. An incredible performance from the team. I could only have dreamed of having this kind of gap. Ferrari have put on such a great challenge all season long. My team have done a great job. They are so meticulous and that is why we have the reliability we are having." Sebastian Vettel admitted his title chances are fading: "I don't have to be a mathematician. What we have to do now, and I said also to the guys: 'Let's get back, get some rest. It has been tough weeks with a lot of changes. The mechanics are tired, the team is tired. It is good to get some rest and then we know we have the package to do well in the last four races. That's what we focus to do and the rest we'll see." Lewis Hamilton is 5/6 at Bet365 to win the US Grand Prix in Austin.
