Premier League: Liverpool sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Liverpool have completed the signing of Arsenal versatile midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on transfer deadline day in a deal worth 35 million pounds. Arsenal had previously agreed a move to Chelsea but the player turned down the offer and chose to sign a five-year contract with Liverpool worth 120,000 pounds a week. The 24-year-old midfielder was in the last year of his contract with Arsenal, so he could have left on a free transfer next summer. The Gunners offered him 180,000 pounds a week to extend his contract but he turned down the offer. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made 198 appearances and scored 20 goals for Arsenal since joining them from Southampton in August 2011. "I know my choice might come as a surprise to many, and the decision to leave was tough after being a part of the club for so many years, but I feel that this move is right for the next stage in my ongoing development, " the player revealed in an Instagram post. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said he is "really happy" to have signed an "exciting" talent. Klopp added: "This is someone making a tough decision to leave one great club and come to another great club and I think he had many options, so to get him means I am delighted. He didn't make an easy decision but I think he made a great one to go on this journey with this squad of talented boys and our great supporters. I welcome him to the Liverpool family." Oxlade-Chamberlain is the fourth signing of the summer for Liverpool after they have signed winger Mohamed Salah from Roma for 34 million pounds, full-back Andrew Robertson from Hull for 8 million pounds and young striker Dominic Solanke on a free transfer. Liverpool are 10/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title this season.
