Top Premier League transfers of the summer
We are at the halfway point of the summer transfer window and the Premier League clubs have already spent around 1 billion pounds on new players with a month left until the window slams shut. The current record spending by Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window was set before last season, when the total spending was a whooping 1.615 billion pounds. The most expensive transfer of the summer and not only in the Premier League but in the whole world was the signing of Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku by Manchester United from Everton for 90 million pounds. It could remain the most expensive transfer of the year across the world but it could be surpassed if the rumoured deals for Monaco's Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona's Neymar go through. Everton have received a lot of cash for Lukaku and they spent most of it on no less than a whole team: they signed 11 players so far and they might get a few more by the end of August. Manchester City have been the biggest spenders so far as they coughed up just more than 200 million pounds to sign new players. Manchester United could surpass that record as Jose Mourinho announced he wants two more players, while Arsenal and Tottenham have been pretty quiet so far. The biggest spenders are also the bookmakers' favourites at the moment, Manchester City are 15/8 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title next summer.
