Premier League: Everton interested in signing Wayne Rooney
Everton are trying to complete a historic move that would take Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney back to the club where he has spent the first years of his career. His future at Old Trafford has been a source of speculation for the past few months and Paul Stretford, Rooney's adviser, has even held talks about a possible move to a Chinese club in February. Rooney has only started 15 Premier League matches last season and, at the age of 31, he might not be part of Jose Mourinho's plans at Manchester United. Wayne Rooney started his career at Everton and scored 17 goals in two seasons for the Toffees before moving to Manchester United for 27 million pounds in August 2004. He went on to score 253 goals in 559 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils and also scored 53 goals in 119 caps for the English national team. The striker has said on previous occasions that he would not be interested to a move to another Premier League side except Everton, his boyhood club. Rooney is under contract with Manchester United until 2019, but Everton major shareholder Farhad Moshiri seems determined to produce a coup by bringing him back to the club. In May the striker was asked about his future at Old Trafford and he said that he would like to remain at the club, but also said that he wants to play more than he did last season. The two clubs have not revealed anything to the media about the negotiations so far, but the discussions would probably progress before Manchester United leave for their tour in the United States on Sunday. Everton are 11/4 at Bet365 to finish in the Premier League top six next season.
