Premier League: Arsenal set to sign Alexandre Lacazette
Arsenal are about to complete their first big-name signing of the summer as French striker Alexandre Lacazette is about to have a medical before completing the transfer to the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners had an initial bid for the striker rejected by Lyon, but after that they made an improved offer which could rise to 52 million pounds with add-ons. The fee breaks the club transfer record, which was set when they signed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for 42.5 million pounds in 2013. Alexandre Lacazette is a prolific striker, he scored 28 goals in Ligue 1 last season and had a tally of 35 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions. He started his career at Lyon as a winger and made his debut in the senior team at the age of 18. In the 2013-2014 season he was moved into a more central role and he started delivering goals on a regular basis, scoring over 20 goals per campaign during the last four seasons. He has only scored once in eleven caps for the French national team. Arsenal have signed just one new player this summer as left-back Sead Kolasinac joined on a free transfer after his contract with German side Schalke expired at the end of last season. Last week Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis promised the fans that the Gunners will bring in quality players this summer, and Alexandre Lacazette would surely fit that profile. The Frenchman had previously agreed to join Atletico Madrid this summer, but the deal fell through after the Spanish club were banned from registering new players until the next transfer window. Arsenal are 12/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title next season.
