Premier League: Leicester City to sign Harry Maguire
Leicester City are ready to wrap up their first transfer of the summer after having reached an agreement with relegated Hull City for central defender Harry Maguire. The deal is worth 17 million pounds and the player has already passed a medical test ahead of the move. Sheffield United will also get some money out of this deal as they had a sell-on clause with Hull stating that they would get 10 percent out of a future transfer. Maguire, aged 24, had moved to Hull City from Sheffield United in 2014. The Foxes are looking to strengthen their defense and they also made an offer for West Bromwich Albion centre-back Jonny Evans. The offer for Evans was around 10 million pounds but West Brom rejected it right away and insisted the player is not for sale. Evans, aged 29, had moved to West Brom from Manchester United in 2015 for just 6 million pounds. Leicester City already have a strong couple of central defenders with club captain Wes Morgan and Robert Huth, but the backup options in the current squad are not good enough. Harry Maguire is a tall and strong central defender, with pretty good Premier League experience at the age of 24. Last season he made 36 appearances in all competitions for Hull City and scored three goals, but the club got relegated to the Championship. He was also on the radar of the England Under-21 national team a few years ago but only managed to make one appearance and never made the step up to the senior national team. While playing for Sheffield United in League One he was elected in the PFA Team of the Year in three consecutive seasons between 2011 and 2014. Leicester City are 6/1 at Bet365 to finish inside the Premier League top six next season.
