UEFA Champions League: Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid make history
Real Madrid have become the first club to win two consecutive Champions League trophies after they defeated Serie A champions Juventus 4-1 at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday. This is the 12th Champions League triumph for Real Madrid, including the Champions Cup trophies that they had won before the competition changed format in the 1990s. Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in Cardiff, then Mario Mandzukic made it all square before the break. After the interval Real Madrid took control of the match, they dominated Juventus and managed to score three times, first through midfielder Casemiro, then Cristiano Ronaldo scored his second, and finally substitute Marco Asensio wrapped things up. Cristiano Ronaldo has now scored 105 Champions League goals, more than any other player and 11 more than Barcelona's Lionel Messi. Ronaldo has won the Champions League four times and has now scored at least twice as many goals as any other player in the quarter-finals (20 goal), semi-finals (13 goals) and finals (4 goals). "This is one of the best moments of my career but it seems I am able to say that every year," Ronaldo said after the match. "People won't be able to criticise me because the numbers don't lie." Real Madrid are 5/1 at Bet365 to win the Champions League again next season.
