LaLiga: Antoine Griezmann to stay at Atletico Madrid
French international forward has decided to put an end to the speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United this summer by stating that he will remain at Atletico Madrid due to the difficult moment that the club is going through. Atletico were banned from registering new players for two consecutive transfer windows last September. They have appealed the decision but CAS has decided to dismiss their plea, which means they won't be able to transfer any new players this summer. "The ruling of the CAS has come through. Atletico cannot recruit. With my sporting advisor, Eric Olhats, we decided to stay," Griezmann said. "It's a hard time for the club. It would be a dirty move to leave now. We talked to the leaders and we will be back for next season." Griezmann has a release clause in his contract set 100 million euros, an amount that Manchester United seemed willing to pay. The French international scored 26 goals in 53 appearances for Atletico this season. Both Atletico and Real Madrid were banned last year due to irregularities they had done on transfers of Under-18 players. Real Madrid appealed the decision as well and the ban was halved, which means they can bring in new players this summer. Atletico only managed to get a reduction of the financial penalty upon appeal. Atletico Madrid are 20/1 at PaddyPower to win the LaLiga title next season.
