Premier League: Manchester City to sign Ederson Moraes
Premier League club Manchester City have reached an agreement with Portuguese outfit Benfica for the transfer of 23-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson Moraes. The Citizens will pay a hefty sum for the young goalkeeper: 35 million pounds. The young goalie only managed to break into the first team at Benfica in March 2016 and went on to make 37 appearances for the club. "Benfica has reached agreement with Manchester City for the amount of 40m euros," the club said in a statement they issued for the Portuguese stock exchange. However, half of the transfer fee will not go to Benfica, as third parties like agents and former clubs will get a share of the money. That could be a problem for Manchester City as the Premier League has rules regarding third parties involved in player transfers. The Brazilian goalkeeper has not yet played for his senior national team, but he has featured in the Under-23 outfit five times so far. Last Friday Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has released Willy Caballero to make room in the squad for the new goalie. Joe Hart will return from his season-long loan at Torino but he will most likely be forced to switch clubs as he doesn't fit into Guardiola's playing style. The Citizens have also signed Monaco's Portuguese playmaker Bernardo Silva last week for 43 million pounds. Manchester City are the favourites for next season's Premier League title, they are 2/1 at Bet365 to win it.
