Ligue 1: Monaco sign Youri Tielemans
It's official, Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco have confirmed the transfer of Anderlecht youngster Youri Tielemans for a transfer fee worth around 23 million euros. The 20-year-old midfielder is regarded as one of the most promising players in his generation and he was a transfer target for several big clubs lately, including Manchester United and Atletico Madrid. Anderlecht general director Herman Van Holsbeeck had confirmed the move earlier this week, even before Tielemans signed a five-year contract with Monaco. "I am thrilled to be a part of this team next year," the Belgian midfielder said. "Monaco are a club with an ambitious project and have a reputation for developing youngsters. I have spoken a lot with Yannick Carrasco about Monaco while we were with the national team. I am very happy to be here. I am going to do everything within my powers to pay back Monaco for the faith shown in me." Tielemans was at Anderlecht during his whole career, he has risen through the youth ranks at the club and made his debut with the first team at the age of 16. He became a key player in the first team and went on to make over 150 appearances for the club. This season he scored 13 goals in 37 league appearances as Anderlecht won the league title and earned the right to play in next season's Champions League. AS Monaco are 40/1 at SkyBet to win next season's UEFA Champions League trophy.
