Premier League: Chelsea sell Branislav Ivanovic to Zenit St Petersburg
Chelsea have decided to accept an offer from Zenit St Petersburg for defender Branislav Ivanovic and the Serbian international has agreed terms with the Russian top-flight club. The two clubs have not disclosed the transfer fee, while Ivanovic has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Zenit, hoping to lead the club to further glory in the league and to Champions League football. Branislav Ivanovic has already played in the Russian top division before joining Chelsea in 2008 from Lokomotiv Moscow. He made 377 appearances for the Blues, won the Champions League with the Stamford Bridge club, the Premier League on two occasions, the FA Cup three times and the League Cup. He will also be remembered by Chelsea fans for having scored the winning goal in the 2013 Europa League final. This season he was left out of the first eleven on many occasions under new boss Antonio Conte, starting just six Premier League games so far. His contract with Chelsea was going to run out at the end of the current campaign. "Unbelievable defender for us over the years and a great and big character and presence in the dressing room," Chelsea captain John Terry wrote on Instagram after the transfer was confirmed. Chelsea are 3/10 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title this season.
