Serie A: Palermo appoint Diego Lopez as head coach

Serie A: Palermo appoint Diego Lopez as head coach
Struggling Palermo have a new coach after former boss Eugenio Corini resigned on Tuesday, the man in charge is Uruguayan Diego Lopez. This is the eleventh coaching change at Palermo in the last two seasons as club owner Maurizio Zamparini keeps firing his head coaches quite easily. In his 30 years as owner of the club, he has changed the head coach 60 times, but he set a record last season by changing the head coach no less than eight times. 42-year-old Diego Lopes has worked as a coach at coach of Cagliari and Bologna before taking the Palermo job. Palermo have won just two of their 21 Serie A matches this season and they are just one point above last-placed Pescara in the league table, with the first place above the relegation zone a whole 11 points away. The new head coach has signed a contract that will expire in June 2018 and his immediate goal is to drag his side out of the relegation zone. Or, judging by the owner's behavior, his main target should be keeping the job at least until the end of the season. Lopez is the fourth head coach at Palermo this season after Davide Ballardini, Roberto De Zerbi and Eugenio Corini. "This is a unique opportunity for me," Lopez said after his appointment was made official. "Palermo is an important club, yesterday I had a meeting with Zamparini and I was pleased because he believes in our chances this season. We know that we have a complicated situation, but I agree that we do have a chance of avoiding relegations. We have to work a lot and talk very little. The owner has faith in me and the director of football as well. New signings? You have to speak to the director of football, he takes care of that side of the business". Palermo are 1/33 at Bet365 to get relegated from the Serie A this season.
