Premier League: Leicester City sign Wilfred Ndidi
Struggling reigning champions Leicester City have secured their first signing of the January transfer window: 20-year-old Wilfred Ndidi for Belgian side Genk for a reported fee around 14 million pounds. The Nigerian player has passed a medical at Leicester and has signed a five-year contract with the Foxes, but the deal will only go through if he will be granted a work permit later this week. The work permit should not be a problem, considering that the youngster has already earned 5 senior caps for Nigeria and has also represented his nation at Under-20 level. Ndidi had joined Genk in 2015 and quickly established himself in the first team despite his young age. He made 64 league appearances in the Belgian top-flight, scoring nine goals. This season he helped Genk to the knockout phase of the Europa League. Ndidi started his career at Genk as a central defender, but later on he was employed as a defensive midfielder and then as a central midfielder. He is also perfectly capable of playing as a left-back, so probably his versatility was one of the main reasons that convinced Leicester to sign him. The Foxes are currently 15th in the Premier League table and they are 16/1 at Bet365 to get relegated this season.
