UEFA Champions League: Borussia Monchengladbach vs Manchester City preview

Borussia Monchengladbach play their last qualification chance in Champions League Group C as they host Manchester City on Wednesday. The Citizens won the reverse fixture quite comfortably, it ended 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium, with a hat-trick from Sergio Aguero and a late goal from Kelechi Iheanacho. The two teams have also met at the same stage of the competition last season, and Manchester City won both matches, 4-2 in England and 2-1 in Germany.

Borussia Monchengladbach have started their Champions League campaign with consecutive defeats against group giants Barcelona and Manchester City, but then they earned a 2-0 victory at Celtic Glasgow and a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture. Those results give them a theoretical chance of pushing through, but that chance can only become real if they beat Manchester City on Wednesday. Their form is not great at the moment though, they have not won in four matches and have lost the last two.

Manchester City have made life difficult for themselves in the Champions League group as they got held to a 3-3 draw at Celtic Glasgow. That result, coupled with the 4-0 defeat at Barcelona, leaves them second in the group table, despite the impressive 3-1 over Barca at the Etihad Stadium. The top spot in the group is pretty much out of reach for the Citizens, but they have to make sure of finishing second by not losing at Borussia Monchengladbach. Fabian Delph and Vincent Kompany will miss out through injury.

Probable line-ups:

Monchengladbach: Sommer - Elvedi, Christensen, Vestergaard - Traore, Kramer, Dahoud, Wendt - Stindl - Hazard, Raffael

Man City: Bravo - Zabaleta, Stones, Otamendi, Kolarov - Fernandinho - Sterling, Gundogan, Silva, De Bruyne - Aguero

My prediction: Manchester City to win 3-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Monchengladbach win - 4.50
Draw - 4.00
Man City - 1.80

Those two teams really should determine the one who will go trough because Barcelona is already out of reach.
Of course city was the big favourite to doing that and after this 1-1 draw their chances are even bigger, still just 3 ponits between those two in the standing but it looks like the favourites Barcelona and City will going trough without too much difficulties.
