Serie A: Paolo Maldini rejects AC Milan role
Former Italy international and AC Milan club legend Paolo Maldini turned down a job offer from the new owners of the outfit, a Chinese group of investors reunited in the Sino-Europe Sports Investment Management Changxing company. Maldini was offered the role of technical director in the new club but the talks between the two parties have broken down. Maldini explained his decision in a post on his official Facebook page, saying: "I didn't have any monetary requests, I told them during the first meeting that what I wanted was a clear definition of the role. I would never have accepted to be employed just as an icon for the club. I haven't requested full control, but since the club had already hired a director of football I would have been supposed to share any decision about player transfers with him." The new club owners also released a statement: "Our priority is to close the acquisition of AC Milan football club. We regret to hear Paolo Maldini's decision, more so since we believe that he will soon realize that our project for AC Milan will be a victorious one." Paolo Maldini has played for AC Milan for 24 years, making 647 league appearances and scoring 27 goals for the club. He won no less than 26 trophies with AC Milan, including seven Serie A titles and five Champions League crowns. AC Milan are 10/3 at Bet365 to finish in the Serie A top three this season.
