Championship: Cardiff City sign striker Marouane Chamakh
Cardiff City have made the signing of Marouane Chamakh official, the Morocco striker will join the club if international clearance goes through. He has signed a contract with Cardiff but only until January. This was an opportunity for him to reunite with manager Neil Warnock after the two worked together at Crystal Palace. Chamakh was out of work after Crystal Palace decided to release him at the end of last season, following just seven goals from him in 59 Premier League appearances over three seasons. "I'm so happy to be here and work with the manager again," Chamakh said in an official statement. "I worked for Warnock at Crystal Palace before and I'm happy and proud to work with him here at Cardiff City FC. Cardiff are a side that should be on top and I think we can improve going forward. I'm looking forward to meeting with my new team-mates and getting started. I can't wait to score for my new team." Manager Neil Warnock added: "We've signed Marouane on a short-term deal until January to assess his fitness. He's a versatile player with pedigree and somebody who impressed me during my time at Crystal Palace." Before joining Crystal Palace, Marouane Chamakh played for Arsenal for three seasons but failed to impress, scoring just eight goals in 40 Premier League appearances. In 2013 he was sent out on loan at West Ham, but only managed to make three Premier League appearances. He was brought in England by Arsene Wenger in 2010 following a great spell at Bordeaux in France, where he scored 56 goals in 230 league appearances. Chamakh also plays for the Morocco national team, he has 65 caps and 18 goals to date. Cardiff City are 80/1 at Bet365 to get promoted to the Premier League at the end of the current season.
