Primera Liga: Lionel Messi out for three weeks
Lionel Messi picked up an injury as his Barcelona were held to a 1-1 draw at Camp Nou by Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. The Argentinian star suffered a groin strain following a tackle from Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin and left the pitch 59 minutes into the game. Messi already had a groin injury earlier this season, a problem that forced him to miss Argentina's match against Venezuela in the World Cup 2018 qualifying group. He didn't miss any of the Barcelona league matches so far this season though. If everything goes well Messi could make his return in Barcelona's clash with Manchester City in the Champions League on October 19. He would still miss plenty of matches as Barcelona play Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League and also Sporting Gijon and Celta Vigo in the Primera Liga, while Argentina take on Peru and then Paraguay in World Cup qualifiers. Sergio Busquets also limped off the pitch in the second half of Wendesday's match against Atletico. Wednesday's draw against Atletico leaves Barcelona third in the Primera Liga table, three points against rivals Real Madrid, who were also held to a 1-1 draw at home by Villarreal. For Atletico Madrid the draw keeps their unbeaten status in the domestic league this season, but they only managed to win two of their five games so far. Barcelona already suffered a defeat, a shock 2-1 at home against newly-promoted Alaves. Despite that, Barcelona are still the favourites to win the Primera Liga title this season, they are 5/6 at Bet365 to win it while Real Madrid are 5/4 and Atletico Madrid 11/1.
