Cycling: Alberto Contador set to join Trek-Segafredo

Spain's Alberto Contador will switch teams in 2017, moving from Tinkoff to Trek-Segafredo in order to pursue his dream of winning the Tour de France. The 33-year-old Spaniard has won all three Grand Tours with seven overall victories in total, but the Tour de France success has eluded him since 2009. He has spent the last six years at Tinkoff but since the Russian team will disband at the end of the season he was forced to seek new employment.

Contador is one of the most successful riders in the history of the sport, one of the six cyclists that managed to win all three Grand Tours. "The big objective is to try and win the most important races - first and foremost the Tour de France," Contador said. "Trek-Segafredo is a very attractive and ambitious project that really inspires me. I am convinced that this team can provide me with the best structure and bring me in the best conditions to the races."

Jesus Hernandez, Contador's trusted domestique has also joined Trek-Segafredo, while Tinkoff directeur sportif Steven de Jongh has also decided to follow the Spaniard at his new team. Team Trek-Segafredo will remain without their biggest star at the end of this season as Fabian Cancellara decided to retire, but they do have some quality riders also joining alongside Contador, like John Degenkolb and Jarlinson Pantano.

Alberto Contador is 12/1 at Bet365 to win the Tour de France in 2017.

I think next season would be vital for Contador, he could either return back to his best and be Tour de France real contender or he'll just proof that it wasn't the Tinkoff team but his age and training which made of him a raider who can't compare with Froome and Quintana.
To be honest never liked him too much but you can't dispute one thing about Contador - he has the guts, more than anybody in this sport.
