Primera Liga: Valencia keen on keeping Shkodran Mustafi

Valencia head coach Pako Ayestaran insists central defender Shkodran Mustafi will not leave the club during the summer transfer window. Arsenal have been looking to sign the defender but the two clubs have not reached an agreement over the transfer fee. Last weekend Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said that a deal "will be done" before the end of August. It seems Valencia don't want to negotiate below the player's buy-out clause, which is worth 43.1 million pounds. Arsenal had offered a transfer fee in the region of 30 million pounds, so the two club's valuations of the player seem pretty far apart at the moment. Valencia surprisingly lost 4-2 at home to Las Palmas on Monday night and after the match Ayestaran said: "Mustafi is not for sale and will not be leaving the club." The German defender started Monday's match on the bench but came on in the second half. Arsenal need an experienced central defender after both Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista picked up serious injuries. Laurent Kosciely and Rob Holding are the only two central defenders available to Wenger at the moment, while full-backs Calum Chambers, Mathieu Debuchy and Nacho Monreal can provide cover in case of an emergency. Valencia are 6/1 at Bet365 to clinch a top-four finish in the Primera Liga this season.
