Championship: Aston Villa sign striker Ross McCormack

Championship side Aston Villa have completed their most expensive signing of the summer as they spent 12 million pounds for the move of Fulham striker Ross McCormack. The forward, aged 29, had been linked with a move to fellow Championship outfit Norwich City but eventually agreed a four-year deal with Aston Villa. McCormack has 13 caps for the Scotland national team but has never played in the Premier League.

In 2014 he joined Fulham from Leeds United for 11 million pounds and went on to score 38 goals in 89 league matches. The transfer fee matches the second-highest fee ever paid by Aston Villa, on par with the transfer of Stewart Downing from Middlesbrough in 2009. The most expensive transfer for Aston Villa remains the move of Darren Bent from Sunderland in 2011 for 18 million pounds.

"He is a player whose goal scoring record has been excellent everywhere he has been and we feel he can be an important addition," Aston Villa manager Roberto di Matteo said. In fact, before having joined Fulham, McCormack scored 53 goals in 140 league appearances for Leeds United and 25 goals in 74 matches for Cardiff City. His professional career started at Glasgow Rangers in 2003.

Aston Villa are 5/2 at Bet365 to get promoted back to the Premier League this season.
