Back Tennis: Stan Wawrinka pulls out of Rio 2016 Olympics

World number four Stan Wawrinka will not be able to represent Switzerland at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The Swiss player had problems with injuries all season, and last week at the Rogers Cup in Canada he aggravated a back injury that will prevent him from playing at the Olympic tournament. Five of the world's top 10 players will not take part in Rio as Roger Federer, Tomas Berdych, Milos Raonic and Dominic Thiem have already pulled out.

Rafael Nadal has confirmed his participation though, despite a wrist injury. The Spaniard has not played since the French Open in May, but he will take part in all three events in Rio: singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Switzerland won't be able to field their two best players as Federer has also withdrawn with a knee injury, but they do have two players in the women's tournament: veteran Martina Hingis and Timea Bacsinszky.

Raonic and Berdych were fit to play at the Olympics, but decided to pull out due to their fear of being contaminated with the Zika virus. "It's unfortunate with Roger and Stan," 2012 gold medallist Andy Murray said. "They're two guys that are both great players and capable of winning events like this, so it's a shame that they aren't here."

Novak Djokovic is 4/6 at SkyBet to win the men's singles Olympic gold in Rio, while Andy Murray is 5/2 to win the tournament.
