Back Serie A: Juventus sign Napoli star Gonzalo Higuain

Reigning Italian champions Juventus have confirmed the signing of Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli for 75.3 million pounds. The striker, aged 28, has signed a five-year contract with Juventus after the club paid his buy-out clause worth 90 million euro. This is the third most expensive transfer in the history of football and the biggest domestic transfer of all time. Higuain had joined Napoli from Real Madrid for 35 million pounds in 2013 and has been linked with a move to Premier League side Arsenal during the last few years.

The most expensive transfer in the world remains that of Gareth Bale, who moved from Tottenham to Real Madrid for 85 million pounds, while Cristiano Ronaldo's move from Manchester United to Real Madrid was worth 80 million pounds. The previous record for a domestic transfer was held by Fernando Torres, who was bought by Chelsea from Liverpool for 50 million pounds.

Higuain was the top goal scorer in the Italian Serie A last season with a tally of 36 goals. Napoli finished second behind champions Juventus last season despite their striker becoming only the second player this century to score more than 30 goals in a Serie A season after Luca Toni had bagged 31 goals for Fiorentina 10 years ago. This big-money move could mean that Juventus will be willing to accept an offer reportedly around 100 million pounds for Paul Pogba from Manchester United.

Juventus are 1/2 at Bet365 to win the Serie A again next season.
