Back Euro 2016: Germany vs Italy preview

Two of the best teams at Euro 2016 will clash in Saturday's quarter-final as reigning world champions Germany take on Italy. The Italians have a very good track record against the Germans, they have never lost against them in a competitive match and have beaten them in three semi-finals. On the other hand, Germany have never lost in the quarter-finals at an European Championship, while Italy have won twice and lost twice at this stage of the tournament.

Germany are the only team that is yet to concede a goal at Euro 2016, they ended the group stage with two wins and a goalless draw and then breezed past Slovakia 3-0 in the round of 16. They have met Italy in a friendly game in March and won it 4-1 in Munich. Jonas Hector was one of the goal scorers in that friendly but he might miss out this time due to illness.

Italy have been quite impressive so far at Euro 2016, they won three of their four matches so far without conceding and their only loss, 1-0 to Ireland, came when they had the qualification from the group stage already secured. The previous round saw Italy secure a solid 2-0 triumph over reigning champions Spain, a result that gives Antonio Conte and his men plenty of confidence. However, central midfielders Daniele De Rossi (injured) and Thiago Motta (suspended) will miss out and their absence could prove crucial.

Probable line-ups:

Germany: Neuer - Kimmich, Boateng, Hummels, Hector - Kroos, Khedira - Muller, Ozil, Draxler - Gomez

Italy: Buffon - Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini - Florenzi, Giaccherini, Parolo, Sturaro, De Sciglio - Eder, Pelle

My prediction: 0-0 after 90 minutes.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
