Premier League: Tottenham sign Victor Wanyama from Southampton
Tottenham have completed their first signing of the summer as they have bought central midfielder Victor Wanyama for 11 million pounds from Southampton. The 24-year-old Kenyan international signed a five-year contract with Tottenham, where he will be reunited with boss Mauricio Pochettino, who managed him during his spell at Southampton. The Saints had bought Wanyama from Celtic in 2013 for 12.5 million pounds. He made 85 Premier League appearances for Southampton, scoring four goals. Last summer he asked to leave the club as Tottenham had declared their interest, but eventually decided to stay and help the Saints reach a solid sixth-place finish. Wanyama wrote a letter to the Southampton fans: "It is very emotional for me to say goodbye to the club that gave me the chance to be the first Kenyan to play in Premier League. I will never forget my time in Southampton Football Club, I will keep club forever in my heart." Tottenham have finished third in the Premier League last season, a position which will allow them to play in next season's Champions League group stage. Tottenham are 7/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title next season.
