Back Premier League: Jamie Vardy set to remain at Leicester City

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has decided to reject the offer from Arsenal, according to BBC Sport. The 29-year-old forward, who is currently with the England squad at Euro 2016, has not yet communicated his decision publicly but is understood to favour a new contract with the Foxes.

Arsenal had made an offer of 20 million pounds for Vardy, thus activating the release clause in his contract with Leicester City. The Gunners offered him a salary of 120,000 pounds a week, while Leicester replied with an offer worth 100,000 pounds per week. The above-mentioned source says that Arsenal are not considering making an improved offer. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed the information in an interview with a Chinese TV station: “Jamie Vardy is, at the moment, at Leicester and from what I know, he will stay at Leicester.”

Jamie Vardy joined Leicester from non-league outfit Fleetwood Town in 2012 for 1 million pounds. He signed a new three-year contract with the Foxes in January, and now he will add another year and a few more money to the contract. Vardy scored 24 league goals last season, leading Leicester City to a historic Premier League title.

Leicester City are 28/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League again next season, while Arsenal are 11/2 to win the title.
