Aston Villa are getting close to reaching an agreement with former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo, according to Sky Sports. The club has a new owner, Dr Tony Xia, who was particularly impressed with Di Matteo's plans for the club. Dr Xia has taken over Aston Villa for 76 million pounds, but the deal will be officially concluded only after he will pass the Premier League's owners' and directors' test. Aston Villa chairman Steve Hollis initially wanted Nigel Pearson as the new manager, but the former Leicester City boss has joined Derby County.
Di Matteo has also held talks with Serie A club Lazio but it seems the two parties have not reached an agreement. The former Chelsea boss has been out of work for a year after leaving Bundesliga side Schalke at the end of a seven-month spell. Aston Villa are without a manager after former boss Remi Garde left the club. Di Matteo has won the Champions League in his brief managerial career, he led Chelsea to glory in 2012 after Andre Villas-Boas got sacked. Six months after that triumph he left Chelsea following a disappointing 3-0 Champions League defeat against Juventus.
New Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has said that he would be willing to spend between 30 and 40 million pounds on new players this summer. Burnley boss Sean Dyche and former Manchester United manager David Moyes have also been linked with the Aston Villa job. There have also been rumours involving former Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli as a new technical director at Villa Park, but the Frenchman denied any contact with Dr Xia.
Aston Villa are 10/1 at Bet365 to win the Championship next season.

I think it would be a good move for the new Villa owners and I in general I like Di Matteo like a manager. His teams playing in attacking and attractive style so I guess this is the style that new owners would like to see from the team in the Championship next season so good luck to Di Matteo.

Cobra, I watched two nights ago 4th league playoff final on Vembley, stadium packed and team that got promoted into 3rd league celebrated out of their minds. People in UK, especially England live for football. Fans are the ones moving it forward, but financial boost for Premier League sides is insane aswell. I mean, just from TV rights every EPL member gets 80 millions. So I am not shocked that Villa and Newcastle want to get back in as soon as possible, might be even in a year.
