Arsenal are ready to make an offer for Bayern Munich defender Medhi Benatia, according to a report in French media. The 29-year-old central defender had suggested that he would want to leave Bayern this summer since he was unable to get a regular starting place at the Bundesliga champions.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will probably try to strengthen his defence this summer, especially since veteran German centre back Per Mertesacker had a disappointing season. Arsenal also have Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel Paulista as alternatives for the middle of the defence, while Calum Chambers can also cover that position when needed. If Arsenal do buy Benatia then they will probably have to sell one of the four defenders mentioned above.
Mehdi Benatia has made 29 league appearances for Bayern and scored two goals. He joined the Bavarians in 2014 from AS Roma, where he had an excellent season with 33 league appearances and 5 goals. Even though he was born in France, Benatia has chosen to represent Morocco at an international level. He has 31 caps and 1 goal for the Moroccan national team.

We all know Wenger, he don't like of spending much no matter how good player he get a chance to bring at Arsenal. I don't blame him it's just his style, Arsenal fans used to complain how poor their team is comparing to the other Premier league leaders but I guess from couple of years they couldn't use that justification. Anyway...

I agree with you mannixx. Arsene Wenger has always been favourising French players over any other country. We can see that example on Guroud, where most of the football world thinks that he is not right fit, right calibre for the team from Emirates stadium, but Wenger keeps giving him space and so on. To get back on topic,...

To get back on topic, true, Benatia isn't the top class defender but he is still better then the ones he currently has, so it will only improve their defence. At least he finally reached out for a defender.

I dont think it the wright decision by Arsene Wenger to buy Benatia , he is not better players then other he have in defence. But a huge impact od Wenger is that Benatia is born in France because he adores French players probably because he is French himself.
