Back Premier League: Danny Welbeck out for nine months

Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck will be out of action for nine months after having to undergo surgery on his right knee. The 25-year-old England striker suffered the injury during last Sunday's 2-2 draw against Manchester City. He was one of the strikers considered by Roy Hodgson for inclusion in the England squad, but will miss out on Euro 2016.

A club statement revealed that there was "significant cartilage damage" in Welbeck's knee, but added that this injury is not identical to the one that kept him out for seven months earlier this season. The player posted a message for his fans on social media, saying: "I will be back stronger!" Gunners manager Arsene Wenger was worried about his striker at the end of Sunday's game at Etihad Stadium.

Welbeck had returned to the pitch in February after being out of action since May 2015, that time due to an injury to his left knee. He has scored 5 times in 16 games for Arsenal this season, quite an achievement considering the long time he had spent on the sidelines. He also bagged six goals in five matches for England during the qualification campaign for Euro 2016. Arsenal and England have already lost Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to injury as the young midfielder suffered his second knee injury this season.

Arsenal are 11/2 at Bet 365 to win next season's Premier League title.
