Copa America 2016: Brazil and Barcelona agree for Neymar to skip tournament

Barcelona star striker Neymar will play for the Brazilian national team at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics but he will not feature at the Copa America. The club have made the official announcement on Wednesday, after Barcelona's 8-0 Primera Liga victory over Deportivo La Coruna. Neymar bagged one of the eight goals to end his five-game scoring drought.

The striker had said he desired to feature in both tournaments this summer, the Brazilian FA wanted that too, but Barcelona said they were afraid his preparation for next season would be affected by the amount of effort required. The two parties have eventually reached an agreement, as clubs are not obliged in any way to release players for the Olympic Games. The Copa America is a mandatory competition though.

"FC Barcelona expresses its gratitude to the Brazilian Football Confederation and its president Marco Polo del Nero for accepting the Club's proposal for Neymar Jr to only play at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this summer, and not at the Copa America in the United States," a club statement read. The Olympic Games football tournament will be played between August 3 and 21, while the Copa America takes place from June 3 to June 26.

Brazil are 15/4 at Bet365 to win the Copa America, while Argentina are the top favourites at 9/4.

When you are as powerful as Barcelona is ,then it is normal to see things like this.I can understand them.It would be really hard for Neymar after long season to play both Copa America and Olympic Games.Neymar has big motive to win an Olympic gold in front of his compatriots, after failure to win world cup 2 years ago.

No it's not normal to see any kind of things like this.
If they will make those kind of ''favours'' to Barcelona they'll have to all the other club teams. What if all the European clubs didn't let their Soutyh American players go to the tournament
