McLaren Mercedes driver Fernando Alonso will not take part at the Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend. The Spaniard has been declared unfit to drive by FIA doctors after his crash at the the first race of the season, the Australian Grand Prix. The accident was huge and some say Alonso is lucky to be alive after the sensors on his car recorded a peak force of impact of 47G.
"Following an examination undertaken this morning at the Bahrain International Circuit Medical Centre, it has been decided that McLaren Honda F1 Team driver Fernando Alonso should not take part in this weekend's Bahrain GP," an FIA official statement read. "Two sets of chest CT scans were compared and it was decided that there was insufficient resolution of the signs to allow him to compete on safety grounds. A repeat chest scan has been requested before the Chinese Grand Prix and the results will be considered before allowing him to race there."
Fernando Alonso will be replaced by McLaren reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne, who has the chance to shine in Formula 1 after having won the GP2 title last season. Vandoorne had been driving in Japan ahead of the Super Formula season, but he had to fly to Bahrain anyway as the team's reserve driver for the weekend.
Lewis Hamilton is the big favourite to win the Bahrain GP this weekend, he is 10/11 at Bet365 to win it, while Nico Rosberg is 15/8.

Today at the press conference he said that still feels small problems when he sleeps. The pain is there. His participation in China is also in doubt now. He became the big bummer, last season he missed the first race, also because of injury.
But this is a chance for a young driver to prove himself. Hope Kimi will win the race, Bahrain loves him :)
After that kind of crash I would not want to see anything on the wheels for few months certainly. Glad to see that Fernando is okay, because he is one of my favourite F1 drivers. He will return but lets now see what this young gun Vandoorne has to offer us. I don't expect much, but who knows.
That crash looked pretty awful and it is great thing that Fernando Alonso will soon continue with driving. It is normal to have a small break to get back in real shape.I am sure that Alonso will be very motivated to prove that he still has a lot of things to offer to the Formula 1 fans.
Never saw that crash but obviously has been quite ugly, it's great that Alonso is better now but I don't think his comeback has to be forced, let him gets fully recovered and for that the have to miss the necessary number of races, but the most important thing is that he's OK now and will be back very soon I'm sure.
