Back Premier League: Aston Villa vs Everton preview

Aston Villa will be trying to get their fourth Premier League of the season and maybe boost their survival hopes when they face Everton at home on Tuesday. The Toffees had a rest last weekend as their derby against Liverpool was postponed, while Aston Villa lost 2-1 to Stoke City on Saturday. Everton have won the reverse fixture 4-0 at Goodison Park in November, with doubles from Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley. Aston Villa have won only one of their last 10 league matches against Everton.

Aston Villa have to do something and do it very soon if they want to survive in the Premier League for another season. So far they have won just 3 matches out of 27 and they find themselves 8 points away from safety. They are coming into this match after two consecutive defeats, starting with the 6-0 thrashing at Villa Park at the hands of Liverpool. They have scored just 21 goals so far this season. Jordan Ayew will be available again after a three-match suspension but Carlos Sanchez, Adama Traore, Libor Kozak, Jordan Amavi and Jack Grealish remain sidelined due to injuries.

Everton's future looks a lot brighter, not necessarily because of their exploits on the pitch. Iranian businessman Farhad Moshiri has bought 175 million pounds worth of the club's shares and reports claim he will give the club at least 100 million pounds for new players. They will be hoping for Champions League football but not this season, as they are currently 12th in the Premier League table. Last time out they were defeated 1-0 by West Bromwich Albion, a frustrating result for the Toffees at the end of the match they had dominated. John Stones could make his return from injury in this match after around a month on the sidelines.

Probable line-ups:

Aston Villa: Bunn - Richards, Okore, Lescott, Cissokho - Bacuna, Westwood, Gueye - Veretout, Carles Gil, Ayew

Everton: Robles - Oviedo, Stones, Jagielka, Coleman - Barry, McCarthy - Cleverley, Barkley, Lennon - Lukaku

My prediction: Everton to win 3-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Aston Villa win - 5.00 Draw - 3.75 Everton win - 1.80
