Primera Liga: Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid handed transfer bans
Spanish top clubs Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have been hit by FIFA with heavy transfer bans: they will not be able to register new players for the next two transfer windows. The two clubs have been found guilty of breaching the rules regarding the transfer of minor-age players. However, the two clubs will be allowed to make transfers during the current window, which shuts at the end of January. Atletico also received a fine of 900,000 Swiss francs (around 622,000 pounds), while Real will have to pay around 250,000 pounds. The two clubs have not issued any comments regarding the ban, but they do have the right to lodge an appeal against the decision. Fellow Primera Liga giants Barcelona were banned for the same irregularities in April 2014 and were unable to register new players until January 2016. Barcelona did sign two players last summer, but they were unable to be registered in the squad until the end of the ban. The following two transfer windows, in which Real and Atletico will be unable to register new players, will be in the summer of 2016 and in January 2017. Real Madrid are 5/1 at Bet365 to win the Primera Liga this season, while Atletico Madrid are 9/1 to win the title.
