Back Premier League: Newcastle United vs Manchester United preview

Newcastle United play host to Manchester United on Wednesday in a match that sees both teams trying to redeem themselves after recent poor results. Man United had their seven-match unbeaten streak snapped by Swansea two weeks ago but bounced back with a 2-0 win over Sunderland last weekend, so they will be keen on creating another run of good results. Wayne Rooney, the club captain, scored both goals for the Red Devils last weekend.

Michael Carrick, Robin van Persie and Phil Jones are still sideline for Man United, so Louis van Gaal will probably field an almost unchanged starting eleven. Newcastle suffered a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City two weeks ago but bounced back with a narrow 1-0 victory over relegation candidates Aston Villa last weekend. The Magpies are currently 11th in the Premier League table, a good run could push them in the top half but a poor streak might sink them close to the relegation zone.

Siem de Jong, Cheick Tiote, Remy Cabella, Paul Dummett and Steven Taylor are still injured for the home side while Jack Colback is suspended for this match. Massadio Haidara is in doubt but Ayoze Perez should make his return in attack. Manchester United have won their last two matches at St James' Park, scoring seven goals in the process and conceding none.

Probable line-ups:

Newcastle: Krul - Janmaat, Coloccini, Williamson, Taylor - Abeid, Sissoko - Ameobi, Perez, Obertan - Cisse

Man United: De Gea - Valencia, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw - Blind, Herrera - Young, Rooney, Di Maria - Falcao

My prediction: Manchester United to win 2-0.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Newcastle win - 16/5 Draw - 5/2 Manchester United - 1/1
